Thousand Petals Head Spa

Although head spas are gaining in popularity for their luxurious, spa-like experience, they offer far more than just relaxation. Scalp issues can arise from a multitude of reasons such as stress, lack of sleep, improper nutrition and dehydration, along with autoimmune conditions and hormonal changes. These are just a few examples. These scalp-focused rituals are designed to support both beauty and wellness by addressing a variety of scalp imbalances such as dryness and flakiness, dandruff, psoriasis, and excess oil production and build-up that can contribute to hair loss or thinning.

The method I use is called the PRANA Ritual Method: a deeply holistic approach that considers the whole person - the physical, emotional, and energetic factors. This ritual honors the connection between scalp health, nervous system regulation, and overall well-being. Rooted in ancient wisdom from Japanese and Ayurvedic traditions and supported by contemporary research, it honors the body’s natural rhythms to restore balance and harmony from within.

Each head spa session is enhanced using an eco-conscious, plant-based line called AWARE by Prana that uses the highest frequency ingredients available. In each ritual you will experience a gentle and deep scalp exfoliation and detoxification using Purifying Ayurvedic Enzymes to draw out impurities and toxins, followed by a customized botanical scalp treatment crafted from nourishing botanicals, healing oils, and soothing aromatherapy. This treatment includes warm steam to open the follicles to allow for deeper penetration of the botanicals to help reset and restore the healthy microbiome, allowing the hair to grow stronger and more radiant. I offer a deeply relaxing head massage to stimulate and awaken blood flow and circulation back to the scalp, while gently weaving in elements of Craniosacral, Cranial Reflexology (Bergman Method), Reiki, and tuning fork frequency to invite deeper relaxation, release stress and tension, and restore balance to your nervous system.

Your body is not broken. It is wise, intuitive, and capable of profound healing when brought back into a state of balance and coherence.

Head Spa FAQs

  • It’s best to wait before combining a head spa treatment with a hair color service. A scalp facial before or after a color service would be too stimulating on your scalp, as it would be more sensitive. To protect your scalp health and color longevity, I recommend spacing your head spa session at least two weeks before or after your color appointment and anytime in between those two weeks. This allows your scalp’s barrier to rebalance so you can fully receive the nourishing benefits of your multi-sensory head spa Ritual.

  • Yes! A scalp facial can be incredibly beneficial for addressing a variety of scalp concerns from dandruff, dryness, flakiness, inflammation, buildup, excess oil production, and psoriasis. By combining gentle exfoliation, purifying Ayurvedic enzymes, and custom-blended botanical scalp treatments, a head spa helps detox the scalp and restore balance to the microbiome. These treatments deeply cleanse the follicles, remove impurities, and help to create an optimal environment for healthy hair growth—all while calming the nervous system and offering a multi-sensory, deeply relaxing experience.

  • The frequency of head spa treatments depends on your unique scalp and wellness goals. For general maintenance and relaxation, once a month to once a season is ideal. However, if you’re working through scalp imbalances such as buildup, flakiness, or excess oil production, dandruff, or psoriasis, bi-weekly sessions may be recommended in the beginning to help reset your scalp’s microbiome. Regular head spas not only support a healthier scalp and stronger hair growth, but also offer a beautiful way to regulate your nervous system and bring your body back into balance.

  • If you have color treated hair, yes. You can receive a treatment anytime between color appointments as long as there is a 2 week cushion before or after your color service. My head spa rituals are safe for color treated hair as the products I use are gentle, nourishing, and plant-based to maintain color vibrancy while restoring the scalp health.

For extensions, I recommend receiving a head spa in between removal and reapplication. Because I do not offer extension services, I cannot reapply or adjust any pieces that may loosen during a session. I would also find this service to be really uncomfortable for you and harder for me to get to the scalp. To ensure the best experience and results, it’s ideal to give your scalp a break and receive a treatment while your natural hair is free from the extensions. This allows for deeper access to the scalp, better tension release, and no risk of disturbing the extension bonds.

  • Each session is designed to be a deeply calming and mutli-sensory experience. We’ll begin with a consultation to assess your scalp and hair needs and address any concerns. We will look at the scalp under a scope to see any issues that we can’t see with the naked eye. I will then create a custom-blended botanical scalp treatment using AWARE by Prana products. This session will also include exfoliation to clear away buildup, warm steam, and a relaxing head massage to stimulate circulation. Depending in your needs, the session may include craniosacral techniques, cranial reflexology, and frequency-based healing using tuning forks. You’ll be supported with red light therapy and finished with a soothing rainfall rinse and deep conditioning treatment to leave your scalp, ends, and nervous system feeling refreshed, grounded, and in balance.
